Swordfish, bossypants and white peaks!

Wouldn’t you think there are some sort of universal odds that this is our time? I don’t even know how I’m going to react if I get a positive test. I’m not sure who I am anymore without getting pregnant being my main focus. I’m going to have to redefine my whole existence, my (almost) every waking thought. There are not many good things I will take away from this but I can now say that I understand loss, I understand patience… that real, deep gut wrenching patience that no one ever tells you about. I have had a brief affair with depression and I know her darkness. I have a sort of compassion towards feeling completely helpless and having to surrender to whatever it is you believe in. Those are the things I will take away, in addition to a huge debt ha!

Our trip went good and besides getting lost a few times, having a frozen water bottle explode in my face and having to put up with one very hung over passenger/wife everything went as planned. It was so good to see friends and our niece and get away for a little while in our little VW bubble. We listened to Tina Fey’s Bossypants as an audio CD and it made us laugh out loud and 5 hours go by like  nothing. We had an amazing dinner, ate oysters, swordfish, steelhead trout and octopus all in the same meal!

It rained all the way to Edmonton and snowy cars met us going up through the mountain passes warning us to slow down and thank the gods we left the winter tires on. But on the way home, the clouds made way for a spectacular Rocky Mountain display with peaks so white we had to squint our eyes.

Now it’s back to waiting, and channeling that patience I was talking about.

On the road...

We left home the day before yesterday, I had a lovely three (!) hour sleep that night much like a kid before Christmas, my little car fully packed and our little hearts filled with excitement. It rained the entire day, the entire 10 hour drive the windshield wipers did not get any rest and moved like an old clock swinging its pendulum back and forth. We spent the night in McBride and had a surprisingly good sleep after a hot tub and a phone call reassuring us the dogs were doing good (yes, we are those kind of dog owners). The next morning I woke up at my regular 6 am, opened the door to outside and yelled "Good morning McBride!!!" don't ask me why. We were on the road at 7.30. The rain turned to snow as the road climbed higher and higher and Squishy (my car) fought off the slush of every semi truck we had to pass on the way. We went through a small section of Jasper National Park and the fog was so thick and low we did not see an entire mountain. We did however see a herd of Elk enjoying some brunch, a black fox, a coyote, countless deer and so many crystal clear lakes I had to hold my breath they were so beautiful.

Then the GPS lady (me) got us lost in downtown Edmonton trying to find IKEA (which is not downtown Edmonton) but we finally found our way to the Swedish oasis and as Venessa put it "I only lost my shit twice!". We ended the day pulling into Red Deer to visit family and spend the night. Stayed up way past our bedtime, got a royal tour of the city and shared many, many laughs and memories. Today we are off to the mall (one of those real malls with actual stores, unlike the empty, ghostly mall where we live) then we are off to Calgary to probably get lost again, hopefully get pregnant and visit more dear ones. Keep your fingers, toes and eyebrows (?) crossed for us in the next few days!

Easter Weekend

Swedish Easter, long forest walks, massive fires, blooming signs of spring, Easter egg hunt, Canadian Easter, doggie cuddles, revamping/repainting our bedroom, double digit weather, singing together in the car, dream catchers, Game of Thrones, bike rides, skype, tiny hands eating chocolate eggs.

That pretty much sums up our Easter weekend. Back to reality for a few days before we head out on the road. The bags are packed (over packed in my case) and we are just waiting for those two little lines to appear on the stick before we leave. And hopefully, hopefully we will come back with the most awaited and anticipated tiny creature in my belly.
